Every year, the huge number of candidates appear for the UGC NET (National Eligibility Test) & CSIR NET. These tests determine the eligibility of candidates for a college and university level lectureship, they also award candidates with a Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) to pursue their Ph.D. or Research. In UGC NET December 2019 session, a total number of 7,93,813 candidates appeared out which 60,147 were qualified for Assistant Professor post and 5,092 qualified for both JRF & Assistant Professor.
Both these exams are held two times a year, in the months of June and December. But there are many candidates who are confused between UGC- NET and CSIR- NET. Actually the purpose of conducting both these exams is the same, there is a difference in the subjects involved in that.
Both CSIR and UGC are two different bodies of the government, with their own respective NET entrance examination. While the CSIR conducts NET examinations for subjects of the Science stream, UGC conducts examinations of all the other streams and their respective subjects.
