With the number of people affected by Coronavirus in India crossing 35000 counts. Ministry of Home Affairs issues order under the Disaster Management Act, 2005 to further extend the Lockdown for a further period of two weeks beyond May 4. This state of lockdown in India has now been extended to May 17th, 2020. Moreover, as an attempt to tackle the pandemic outbreak in a more structured manner, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has now classified the different districts of the country into three zones, namely Red, Orange, and Green. This is according to the severity of the coronavirus outbreak in these districts.
MHA stated that “A limited number of activities will remain prohibited across India, irrespective of the zone, including travel by air, rail, metro & inter-State movement by road; running of schools, colleges, & other educational & training/coaching institutions, plying of cycle rickshaws&auto rickshaws; taxis&cab aggregators; intra-district&inter-district plying of buses & barber shops,spas & saloons.
The government would start a mammoth exercise from next Monday (April 20) to categorize the country in zones. In this exercise, the Aarogya Setu App would play a major role, adding it would help in categorizing area-specific COVID-19 cases.

CHECK STATE-WISE REPORT OF CORONAVIRUS IN INDIA
THE RED ZONE:
- Areas with substantial numbers of positive cases would fall under this zone where there will be complete restriction. These areas declared as Hotspots.
- This is because these are the areas that need focused attention since the number of cases here is experiencing a high rate of growth.
- The Red Zone has Total Number of districts per zone is 130.
- The government will be providing door-to-door facilities.
- No one from these areas is allowed to leave their houses at any cost. Furthermore, the areas under the Red Zone will be undertaking effective containment activities for a period of 14 days.
THE ORANGE ZONE:
- The areas with a limited number of cases in the past and with no surge in positive cases recently would be included under the orange zone.
- Only restricted activities, such as the movement of limited public transport, in addition to farm product harvesting.
- Total Number of districts per zone in orange Zone: 284
THE GREEN ZONE:
- Any area or district, which has not reported any positive coronavirus case, comes under the Green Zone.
- Furthermore, any district, which is currently a hotspot, will be considered as a Green Zone if it does not report any new coronavirus case in 28 days.
- Exemptions may be given in these sectors as per the government’s plan.
- Limited movement is allowed, in regards to essential services.
- Opening of liquor shops and other essential goods which help to generate state revenue could get an extension in Green Zones.
- Total Number of districts per zone in orange Zone: 319
Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) engaged in manufacturing of essential items like wheat four (atta), pulse (dal) and edible oils would be allowed to function freely in orange and green zones with strict maintenance of social distancing.
The main aim of Lockdown 2.0 is that the different states in India will utilize this period to the best possible extent, while trying to convert the districts in the Red Zone to Orange, and eventually into Green Zones and thereby contain the spread of COVID-19 in the country.

COMPLETE HOTSPOT LIST ACROSS INDIA
The main criteria of these hotspot districts are those from which more cases are being currently reported or where the rate of growth of cases is more i.e. that doubling rate of cases is less.
Districts were also told to classify hospitals as:
- COVID Care Centres for mild cases or very mild cases,
- COVID Health Centres for clinical moderate cases requiring oxygen support and
- COVID Dedicated Hospitals for severe & critical cases with ventilator support.
Government of India is taking several steps for prevention, containment and management of COVID-19 through a collective effort with the States/UTs. These are being regularly reviewed and monitored at the highest level.
In order to break the chain of transmission, focus needs to be on contact tracing, monitoring and clinical management. States have been asked to uniformly implement the containment plan in every district across the country.
