1. Sanjay has Rs 36 more than Vinay. Vinay has 25% of the total amount that Sunil has. Sunil has a total of Rs 1,540. What amount does Sanjay have?

 Vinay’s amount = Rs(1540*25/100) = Rs 385
Sanjay’s amount = Rs.(385 + 36) => Rs. 421

2. The length of a rectangle is 6 cm more than its breadth. If the area of the rectangle is 112 sq cm. What is the perimeter of the rectangle?
(a) 22 cm

 Let the breadth of the rectangle be x cm.
Now, according to the question,
Length of the rectangle = (x + 6) cm
(x + 6)x= 112      or, x^2 + 6x – 112 = 0
(x + 14) (x – 8) = 0     or, x = –14 or 8
Perimeter of the rectangle = 2(8 + 14)cm = 44 cm

3. Half of Sonu’s monthly income is equal to four-seventh of Rajiv’s monthly income. Rajni’s monthly income is `32000 which is double the monthly income of Sonu. What is Rajiv’s monthly income?

Present age of Rehana = 85 – 7 = 78 years

7. Dinesh’s monthly income is four times Suresh’s monthly income. Suresh’s monthly income is twenty per cent more than Jyoti’s monthly income. Jyoti’s monthly income is `22,000. What is Dinesh’s monthly income?

9.The ratio of the number of boys and girls in a college is 7 : 8. If the percentage increase in the number of boys and girls be 20% and 10% respectively, what will be the new ratio?

Originally, let the number of boys and girls in the college be 7x and 8x respectively.
Their increased number is (120% of 7x) and (110% of 8x).
=> [120/100 x 7x] and [110/100 x 8x]
=> 42x/5 and 44x/5
=> The required ratio = 42x/5 : 44x/ 5] = 21 : 22

10.Salaries of Ravi and Sumit are in the ratio 2 : 3. If the salary of each is increased by Rs. 4000, the new ratio becomes 40 : 57. What is Sumit’s  present salary?

Let the original salaries of Ravi and Sumit be Rs. 2x and Rs. 3x respectively.
Then, (2x + 4000)/ (3x + 4000)= 40/57
=> 57(2x + 4000) = 40(3x + 4000)
=>6x = 68,000
=> 3x = 34,000
Sumit’s present salary = (3x + 4000) = Rs. (34000+ 4000) = Rs. 38,000
