Maths Quiz for 2016-17 Exams

1. The ratio between the rates of walking of A and B is 3:4 . If the time taken by B to cover a certain is 48 minutes, the time taken (in minutes) by A to cover that distance is :
(a) 36
(b) 64
(c) 21(5/7)
(d) 27(3/7)
Ratio of time taken = 1/3 : 1/4 = 4:3
If B takes 3 min ,A takes 4 min
If B takes 48 min ,A takes (4/3 * 48)min = 64 minutes

2. A man walking at the rate of 3 kmph crosses a square field diagonally in 2 minutes. The area of the field  (in ares) is :
(a) 25
(b) 30
(c) 50
(d) 60
Length of diagonal = distance covered in 2 min
= (3000/60 *2) = 100 m.
so Area of the field = 1/2 *(diagonal)^2 = 1/2 *100*100
= 5000 m^2 = 50 ares

3. Summer started cycling along the boundaries of a square field from corner point A. After half an hour he reached the corner point C, diagonally opposite of A. If his speed was 8 km/h, what is the area of the field in square km?
(a) 64
(b) 8
(c) 4
(d) None of these
Distance covered in half an hour = 4 km.
2*side of the square = 4 km => side of square = 2 km
So Area of the field = 4 sq.km.

4.  A man cycles at the rate of 15.6 km/h. How many metres does he cover in 2 minutes?
(a) 31.2
(b) 260
(c) 520
(d) 5200
5. If a boy takes as much time in running 10 m as a car takes in covering 25 m, the distance covered by the boy during the time car covers 1 km is :
(a) 40 m
(b) 400 m
(c) 250 m
(d) None

6.  A man riding a cycle at 12 km/hr can reach a village in 4(1/2) hours. If he is delayed by   1(1/2 ) hours at the start, then in order to reach his destination in time, he should ride with a speed of:
(a) 15 km/hr
(b) 16 km/hr
(c) 18 km/hr
(d) 20 km/hr
Distance = (Speed*Time)= (12*9/12) km = 54 km
Now,distance = 54 km and time taken = 3 hrs.
so speed = distance/time = 54/3 = 18 km/hr.

7.  Two trains starting at the same time from two stations 200 km apart and going in opposite directions cross each other at a distance of 110 km from one of them. The ratio of their speeds is :
(a) 11 : 20
(b) 9 : 20
(c) 11 : 9
(d) 11 : 10

8.  A man takes 5 hours 45 min in walking to a certain place and riding back. He would have gained 2 hours by riding both ways. The time he would take to walk both ways is :
(a) 3 hours 45 min.
(b) 7 hours 30 min.
(c) 7 hours 45 min.
(d) 11 hours 45 min.

9.  Renu rides at the rate of 10 km per hour but stops for 10 minutes to take rest at the end of every 15 km. How many hours will she take to cover 100 km?
(a) 10
(b) 11
(c) 12
(d) 11 1/6

10.  Rakesh travels for 14 hours 40 min. He covers one-half of the journey by train at 60 km/h and the rest half by road at 50 km/h. The total distance travelled by him ( in km) is :
(a) 720
(b) 800
(c) 960
(d) 1000
